Lionel Messi suffers achilles injury: set to miss PSG trip

Just over two weeks before the 2022 World Cup, Lionel Messi will miss Paris Saint-trip Germain’s to Lorient on Sunday owing to an inflamed Achilles tendon.

This season, Messi has excelled, scoring 12 goals and dishing out 14 assists across all competitions.
Due to a calf issue, he missed two games in October, but his Achilles injury shouldn’t keep him out for too long.

In Qatar, the World Cup runs from November 20 to December 18. Leo Messi will continue receiving therapy for his injured Achilles tendon out of prudence, according to a PSG statement. He will resume group training the following week.

Messi has been the subject of much discussion lately as he prepares for what may be his final World Cup and what may be his best opportunity to win the title with Argentina, who are riding a 35-game winning streak.

If Messi plays in every game for Argentina up until the World Cup final and returns to action for PSG’s Ligue 1 match against Auxerre the following Sunday, the World Cup final will be the 1000th game of his career.

Argentina is favored to win the World Cup, second only to Brazil and ahead of the current champions France. Argentina’s Messi team was put in Group C with Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico.
