Cristiano Ronaldo might make a comeback for Manchester United’s final Premier League game before the World Cup on Sunday against Fulham.
Ronaldo was forced to sit out of United’s 4-2 League Cup third-round victory over Aston Villa due to illness, and Anthony Martial, who had scored goals before, took his place.
Prior to their four-goal victory over Villa sans Ronaldo, United had only scored three goals in their previous three games with the Portuguese up front.
Since the Citizens defeated Brighton & Hove Albion on October 22, Haaland has not been selected in a Premier League starting lineup due to his inability to regain his previous level of fitness.
With a muscular issue that has kept him out of the last four United games, Antony will be evaluated after United’s training sessions on Friday and Saturday before it is decided whether he will go to London. Ten Hag underlined that Antony’s injury will not have an impact on his hopes of representing Brazil at the World Cup.
Erik ten Hag, manager of United, said of Ronaldo, “I can’t guarantee that now but he was ill today, he can recover from it. “I think it’s feasible he will be available for Sunday and in the squad because it’s not a really terrible illness that requires days or weeks to recover from.
“Antony? We are working on it, but I am unable to guarantee that he will play on Sunday. He made progress recently, and tomorrow and Saturday will reveal if he will be available for the team on Sunday.”
For Ten Hag’s team to move up to fourth in the Premier League standings, United would need to defeat Fulham and Tottenham to lose to Leeds with a 10-goal swing involving the clubs’ matches.
